American Impressionism

After the exhibition of the French impressionism in New York in 1886 which was organized by an art dealer called Paul Durand-Ruel, many American artist were inspired by the new techniques seen on the paintings. Many of the artists decided to go and visit the home of the new trend, Paris.

American ImpressionismThe first exhibition will take place in Spain to focus on the spread of the impressionism in the USA. The exhibition has approximately 60 paintings which will be analyzed how the American artists discovered impressionism in the 1880s and 1890s and how they interpreted their own new style they developed around the 1900.

The exhibition will be open first at the Musèe des Impresionnismes Giverny in France in the spring of 2014 then it will move to Edinburgh, Scotland to the National Galleries of Scotland in the summer. From November it can be seen in Madrid, Spain at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemissza.

The exhibition will be shown from 4th November until 1st February in 2015.
